Cod fishing and Right Whale Sighting!

Cod fishing and Right Whale Sighting!

April 17, 2012

Cod fishing yesterday was challenging but the Haddock fishing was superb. The trip departed at 4:30 am and headed offshore for cod and haddock. The weather was beautiful and the seas were calm. When we got to our first spot, we were marking tons of small bait fish. There seemed to be small cod but not enough bigger fish to keep us there. We moved into deeper water and started hooking up haddock. Deep holes seem to be the trick for locations. The bite slowed down at the tide change then it picked up towards the midmorning and afternoon. All in all it was a great day with customers getting the limit of Haddock, but the cod was hard to come by. I expect the cod fishing to heat up and the haddock and pollack start coming in in big numbers.

On the way home our passenger got a treat. We ended up seeing what we believed to be a Right Whale. I grabbed my camera and took this video and some pictures. The fishing was fun and a great day on the water was had by all.
